'''AzerothCore''' is an open-source World of Warcraft server emulator used as the technical foundation for the Shadowmourne Realm.

Shadowmourne uses AzerothCore together with the Playerbots module to provide Wrath of the Lich King gameplay with AI-controlled characters.

Overview

AzerothCore recreates server-side World of Warcraft systems for the Wrath of the Lich King 3.3.5a client.

It provides systems for:

  • characters
  • combat
  • creatures
  • quests
  • dungeons
  • raids
  • battlegrounds
  • guilds
  • mail
  • auction house
  • items
  • spells
  • talents
  • achievements
  • groups
  • dungeon finder
  • world events
  • scripting

Shadowmourne

The Shadowmourne Realm is built on an AzerothCore Playerbots branch.

This allows the realm to combine normal AzerothCore gameplay with advanced AI systems.

Playerbots Module

Shadowmourne uses the AzerothCore-compatible mod-playerbots system.

The module adds:

  • Random Bots
  • Altbots
  • AddClass bots
  • bot chat commands
  • combat strategies
  • non-combat strategies
  • autogear
  • maintenance
  • account linking
  • dungeon logic
  • battleground AI
  • travel systems

See Playerbots.

World Database

AzerothCore uses a world database for game-world information.

This includes data such as:

  • creatures
  • items
  • quests
  • game objects
  • vendors
  • commands
  • loot
  • spells
  • scripted content

Character Database

Character data is stored separately from world data.

Character information may include:

  • characters
  • inventory
  • equipment
  • quests
  • guild membership
  • mail
  • achievements
  • cooldowns

Authentication Database

Account and realm information is stored in the authentication database.

This includes:

  • accounts
  • realm information
  • access levels
  • account security

Playerbots Database

Shadowmourne also uses a dedicated Playerbots database.

This contains data specific to AI-controlled characters.

Examples include:

  • account types
  • random bot state
  • gear caches
  • item information
  • travel nodes
  • custom strategies
  • guild-related Playerbot data
  • Best-in-Slot data
  • weight scales

Modules

AzerothCore supports modular extensions.

Modules can add or modify features without rewriting the entire core.

Shadowmourne uses Playerbots as one of its major modules.

Game Master Commands

AzerothCore includes a command system used by Game Masters and server administrators.

Commands typically begin with a period.

Example:

.account
.character
.lookup
.tele
.modify
.playerbots

Access depends on account security.

Player Commands

Shadowmourne also allows certain commands to be available to normal players.

The exact permissions depend on realm configuration.

See Playerbot Commands.

Scripting

AzerothCore supports scripted game behavior for:

  • bosses
  • quests
  • creatures
  • spells
  • instances
  • events

This allows encounters and world systems to reproduce original Wrath of the Lich King behavior.

Shadowmourne Customization

Shadowmourne may include configuration and custom content beyond a default AzerothCore installation.

The Wiki should document Shadowmourne behavior when it differs from stock AzerothCore behavior.
